Türkiye and China Enhance Economic Collaboration in 55-Year Diplomatic Milestone

As Türkiye and China commemorate 55 years of diplomatic relations, the two countries are strengthening their partnership through increased collaboration in various sectors such as trade, connectivity, technology, energy, and regional affairs. This enduring relationship traces its roots to centuries of interactions along the historic Silk Road, a trade route that facilitated economic and cultural exchanges between the two civilizations. Türkiye’s Ambassador to China, Selçuk Ünal, emphasizes this shared history as a foundation for their modern diplomatic ties.

Official diplomatic relations between Türkiye and China were established in 1971, and since then, the partnership has seen substantial growth. China has emerged as Türkiye’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade volume exceeding $50 billion each year. This economic interdependence is further supported by enhanced connectivity between the countries, marked by an increase in passenger and cargo flights that bridge major urban centers.

In an effort to deepen ties, Türkiye has broadened its diplomatic footprint across China by opening multiple consulates and increasing economic engagement. The two nations are actively working to expand cooperation in critical areas including artificial intelligence, green energy, infrastructure, and commerce. Ambassador Ünal notes that Ankara and Beijing often align on numerous international and regional issues, particularly those involving peace, stability, development, and conflict prevention.

Looking to the future, Türkiye and China are committed to advancing their partnership under the strategic vision set by their leaders. This vision prioritizes long-term economic growth and regional collaboration, aiming to solidify their relationship further in the coming years. Through these efforts, the two nations hope to build a robust and enduring alliance that benefits both parties and contributes to broader regional stability.
