Erdoğan Affirms Türkiye’s Capital Market Stability Amid Fund Investigation

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has reassured that Türkiye’s capital markets remain robust despite recent disturbances in the investment fund sector. Following a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdoğan emphasized that the issue is confined to a specific segment of the fund market and does not threaten the broader financial system. He highlighted that authorities are actively working to ensure financial stability and protect investors.

The president described the government’s approach towards managing the liquidation of affected funds and mentioned ongoing efforts to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Erdoğan also committed to pursuing legal action against individuals responsible for destabilizing market activities.

Earlier this month, authorities initiated investigations into alleged share-price manipulation involving several thinly traded stocks. These developments resulted in financial losses and increased pressure for redemption on certain investment funds. Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek affirmed that legal proceedings are underway against those involved and that measures to uphold financial stability are in place.

Erdoğan plans to convene with economic officials and pertinent institutions to further evaluate the situation and discuss additional measures for the fund market. This continued dialogue underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Türkiye’s financial landscape.
