According to Saudi civil defense authorities, the assault resulted in a projectile landing near the Yemen border, injuring two individuals and causing damage to a mosque and several structures.
Meanwhile, Yemeni government forces have ramped up their offensive against Houthi positions, conducting three airstrikes in the Taiz region and focusing on Houthi-held areas and weaponry near the strategic Red Sea port city of Mocha. This military escalation follows a week-long Houthi offensive during which the group captured significant portions of Yemen’s Red Sea coastline along with several key islands. These advances have bolstered the Houthis’ strategic control near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a crucial maritime corridor at the southern entrance to the Red Sea.
The Houthis have also declared a maritime blockade of Saudi Red Sea ports, exacerbating concerns over regional shipping routes and energy supply chains. This waterway has gained increased importance for Saudi oil exports due to disruptions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. The ongoing conflict sees Saudi Arabia continuing its support for Yemen’s internationally recognized government, while the Houthis maintain their alignment with Iran, further inflaming regional tensions.
The renewed hostilities have sparked a severe humanitarian crisis, forcing tens of thousands of individuals to flee their homes amidst the intensified fighting. Displaced civilians face significant challenges in securing refuge in safer areas. The United Nations has observed a marked increase in displacement since July, with the latest conflicts reportedly resulting in over 500 casualties.
