Intense rainfall is sweeping across Istanbul, significantly raising concerns about flooding and transportation disruptions. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Disaster Coordination Center has reported that the rain, which started earlier in the morning, is expected to strengthen around 11 a.m. and continue until it gradually eases by 4 p.m.
Temperatures in the region have plummeted with the arrival of cooler air, dipping to about 14°C in the morning and staying below the seasonal average throughout the day. This cooler air, combined with moist air near the surface, is likely to result in thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy showers, according to meteorological forecasts.
Authorities have issued warnings for Istanbul and several provinces in the Marmara and western Black Sea regions. These areas could face sudden flooding, strong winds, and further transport disruptions due to the severe weather conditions.
While the city grapples with the immediate impact of the weather, forecasts suggest an improvement from Thursday. Temperatures are expected to rise to around 21°C, and significant rainfall is not anticipated in the following days, offering respite to the affected areas.
