The head of Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization, Ibrahim Kalın, welcomed Hassan Rashad, chief of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service, to Ankara on Monday for significant discussions focused on regional security and cooperation. The dialogue highlighted the increasing synergy between Türkiye and Egypt as both nations aim to solidify diplomatic and security collaborations throughout the Middle East and Africa.
A key topic on the agenda was the enforcement of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Turkish security sources reported that both officials pledged to bolster coordination efforts in response to what they termed as Israel’s rising breaches of the ceasefire. Kalın reiterated Türkiye’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people, emphasizing Ankara’s dedication to providing aid amid the ongoing conflict.
In addition to the Gaza situation, the intelligence leaders evaluated wider regional developments and explored avenues to deepen Türkiye-Egypt cooperation. Their discussions touched on promoting political reconciliation in Libya by backing efforts to unify the country’s governance and military structures across its eastern and western territories under a single national framework.
The meeting also tackled security issues in other regional hotspots. Kalın and Rashad exchanged insights on the changing dynamics in Somalia and the conflict in Sudan, which involves the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. They assessed the potential regional stability implications of these crises and discussed opportunities for ongoing dialogue on mutual security concerns.
