Central Bank Reserves in Türkiye Surge $40 Billion Since June

The reserves of Türkiye’s central bank have seen a substantial increase, climbing by nearly $40 billion since the end of June. This growth marks the reserves’ highest level in approximately five months. As of the week ending August 21, the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT) is estimated to have bolstered its total reserves by $5.3 billion, bringing the total to around $188.8 billion. This is a notable rise from the $183.5 billion recorded the previous week.

Back on June 26, the reserves had reached a low point of approximately $149.2 billion. However, a robust recovery followed, with reserves ascending to $164.4 billion by the end of July and continuing to rise steadily through August. This trend indicates a significant recovery effort, pushing the reserves up by about $39.6 billion from their lowest point in June.

The current estimated figures place the reserves at their highest level since March 13, illustrating a period of sustained financial strengthening for the central bank. The recovery journey of these reserves highlights the central bank’s efforts to stabilize and enhance its financial standing over the summer months.

With the official figures for the week ending August 21 anticipated for release on Thursday, these estimates provide an optimistic preview of the central bank’s current financial position. The expected confirmation of these numbers will likely underscore the successful recovery trajectory that Türkiye’s central bank reserves have undertaken since their slump earlier this year.
