As geopolitical tensions persist globally, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has advocated for revitalized relations with the United States, emphasizing the importance of closer dialogue between the two NATO allies. During the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” held in New York, Erdoğan underscored the necessity of enhanced cooperation to address international conflicts and crises.
Erdoğan highlighted the positive outcomes that have emerged from the collaboration between Turkey and the United States, particularly in the Middle East. He expressed Turkey’s commitment to bolstering coordination with Washington and suggested expanding bilateral cooperation in areas such as nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and the defense industry. Moreover, he called for the removal of barriers that hinder joint defense production.
The Turkish leader pointed to the significant growth of Turkey’s defense industry, noting that its annual defense exports have surged from approximately $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion today. He expressed confidence that Turkey is on track to become one of the world’s top 10 defense exporters.
In a bid to attract American investors, Erdoğan highlighted Turkey’s favorable foreign investment climate and new investment incentives. He announced a fresh investment initiative grounded in what he described as a competitive incentive framework, aiming to boost economic ties further.
US Senator Chris Coons, also present at the event, reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between the two nations, emphasizing how business ties and entrepreneurship contribute to strengthening bilateral relations. The gala brought together senior officials and business leaders from both countries, celebrating the enduring diplomatic and economic connections between Turkey and the United States.
